With a well constructed box, heavily braced, and fully stuffed, there is virtually no box responances, or boxy sounds.Hi Jon,
Sorry to disagree but that would be a first. Like capacitors, the best box is no box. I don't care how well build the box is, you can hear it when compared to an open, dipole design.
If you want to improve the Maggies bass response:
1. Brace the speaker and/or put it on tiptoes;
2. For the biggest improvment: Rebuild the xover with better parts eg chokes, caps, wire, connectors.
3. Make sure you have a powerful, yet well controlled amp on the bottom end.
