But first things, first, get a disc with test tones and a inepensive Radioshack meter and see where the peaks and dipas are in your room
in the listening spot(s).Based upon your description, the first thing that I am guessing would help, would be a nice large rug with organic (rather than acrylic based) fibers [worse come to worse, ANY rug is better than none if you are on tiles!]- then drapes on the windows. Then some leafy plants to scatter sound waves.
You should get most of the way there for not very much, and make the room look nice!
