In general, you have the panels where they need to be for best results.Of course, every room is slightly different, but for the typical room pressed into service for a sound room, the placement recommendations I call out in the original DIY Acoustic Treatment artilce (at:

near the end, is going to make the best of a limited number of panels, traps and diffusors.If you only have two panels, the next thing to go for would be to make another pair, and place them at the side wall 1st reflection points, this would be the next big gain to be had.
