Tweakers' Asylum Tweaks for systems, rooms and Do It Yourself (DIY) help. FAQ. |
|
I just finished two Jon Risch DIY bass traps. I used his original design based on the ASC traps. First, let me say what a difference putting these four-foot, 16" traps in the back corners made in my room. Very seldom do I make a change with my system where I say "Damn" right away. I noticed the difference as soon I started backing away from placing the second trap. By the time I got to my listening position, the change was incredible. These traps are that good.
I plan on building two more of these traps in the near future. I'm really not sure if I need them that much. But they are cheap and easy to build, so why not?
Thanks to Jon for his design and dedication to DIY. I've built his Belden 89259 interconnects and his CC89259 speaker cables. The money I spent on using his designs is a fraction of what I would have spent to get the same performance from commercial products.
My next project will be some of Jon's DIY acoustic panels, which look a little harder to build than his other designs.
My little system using Pi speakers and Bottlehead components is very nice for the money, IMHO. Jon's cables and room treatments sure help to make an inexpensive system sound pretty damn good.
