Re: question about design

Hi Peter,

"Is it ok to place the traps on spikes?"

On a carpet, this would be an excellent idea. The spikes will have no effect sonically (other than preventing the traps from tumbling onto your speakers or other components, which could indeed have a sonic effect).

This is exactly the situation in my friend's carpeted studio. While commercially available spikes will do the trick, if you have a lot of traps the cost can go up pretty quickly. An equally functional alternative would be to make bases. In my friend's case, we're talking about cutting wooden circles of the same diameter as the traps. A set of flat head screws, countersunk through the circles (at 12 o'clock, 4 o'clock and 8 o'clock) will make for a nice base with a flat top upon which the traps can rest. For added security, a dab or two of Liquid Nails can make a more permanent attachment.

Hope this helps.

Happy Listening!
Barry
