... Seagate Barracuda ATA IV (7200 rpm, any size is ok). Read down to find out why...IBM has had *serious* QC issues with the last three generations of GXP drives, including 60GXP, 75GXP and even the recent 120GXP.
If you don't believe me go to hard drive professional users forum at www.storagereview.com and you'll find hundreds of horror stories with consistenly failing drives.
IBM doesn't even recommend keeping the drives on all the time, so for constantly "on" devices it would be a bad idea to use an IBM GXP drive.
Also, the IBM drive of current are neither silent nor do they run cool.
If you want the coolest (least warm) and most silent ATA/IDE drive right now, you get:
Seagate Barracuda ATA IV
This has been consistently tested as as the most silent 7200 rpm ATA drive now on the market (including Fujitsue/Samsung fluid bearing type drives). Also, it is amont the least warm of the bunch.
cheers,
Halcy
