By" across the switch",I mean:connect one lead of the cap to the same lug as the output wire and the other lead to the same lug as the signal ground.I assume that you are using a DPDT switch.
68pF may well be too small,the .01uF worked for me.
If you want to try something automatic,go to the like below and look for the "Curio Auto Mute" circuit board.It's a tiny circuit board that you stuff with about $15.00 worth of parts.It has about a 45 second turn on delay and immidiate turn off muting.Very slick.
