Re: black gates in parallel

That's right. ESR is usually quoted at 50 or more commonly 100Hz. (I did mention this in the figures I gave.) That's probably because mains hum suppression is the important parameter to consider for the main power supply caps.

I'll have to look into these Black Gate caps. Have you ever come across the big Beyshlag caps I mentioned? They are expensive enough - $130 (Aus) each from the wholesale outlet. A regular cap of the same value costs around $30 retail.

I'm probably carrying forward a practice which is no longer necessary, as you say. But I've always considered the supply caps as part of the signal chain anyway, so the faster they can charge-discharged the better.

Probably unnecessary. I finished my last amp a month or so ago, so I don't have to worry about keeping up as I used to :)
