I understand your "hedging". Everything is very subjective and must be taken in context. I did look at your system and the main differences are I favor push pull and have a larger room. My present amps are push pull triode strapped 6V6's good for almost 3 watts a channel(no feedback and no electrolytics:). So no huge difference compared to your stuff.I have heard Lowthers and find them a little too picky...hard to tame...etc.... for me to go with them. I'd love to hear a good horn system as my rememberance of them tends towards a ear drilling, beamy sound. At the end of the day I want music to "soothe the savage beast" and not something that gives me a headache!
Other than perhaps the cost (considering what the drivers cost) I can't find much in the way of negative comments about Terry's speakers. Plus the woodwork is first rate and the speakers are attractive despite the height. If my tax return allows I might just take the plunge. I just have to decide on which version. Sometimes the speakers are about 20 feet away, but I often move them to about ten feet away for critical listening. I got the impression Terry liked the near fields better and they seem to be more popular. Oh well...decisions decisions:)
Thanks again,
Russ
P.S. I think most of us low powered tube guys feel like our system's main (only?) weakness is big musical works when the going gets overly complex. But yes, Joni Mitchell and such never sounded "real" on high wattage solid state...or at least it never brought a tear to my eye.
