Dedicated Circuit for Audio System

I just finished installing a dedicated circuit for my audio system.

First the problem.

I started out with a voltage reading of 119 volts at the wall outlet that is built in. This is a very old home and someone put in a new service but used minimal everything just making code, maybe. Anyway started out with 119 volts at the wall plug. The regular outlet would drop the voltage to 115 volts when I cranked up the amp.

The fix

I installed a dedicated circuit using a twenty amp breaker and #10-3 wires with a dedicated ground. I ended up with 122 volts at the new outlet. With the dedicated circuit it doesn’t drop but a few 10th of a volt. Cleaned up lots of problems with muddiness in the bass. I would only assume the voltage drop would throw the bias off on the amp. I don’t know if the dedicated ground improves the sound quality but the 20 amp receptacles are built much better then the standard 3 for a dollar at the hardware store and I am sure it dosen't hurt.

I just wanted to share my personal experience with a dedicated line and if you have a voltage drop you might want to consider this option. It’s the best tweak I have done for my system and it cost less then one power cord which will do nothing if the voltage to the equipment is bad.
