I suspect you are in no way drawing enough current to warm the wire, but I personally would be certain the wire is not in contact with wood. Also I assume you are using circuit breakers.I bet it does sound good. This tells you something about the poor conductivity of wall outlets and ac plugs. I hope you don't change equipment much. I had a friend who hardwired everything. After one change of amps, he decided to go back to the normal connections.
I suspect racerguy is correct if you live in a city and one with an electrical code.
