Improving the op-amp complement may improve the sound, but the supply is the biggest determining factor in whether an op-amp will sound good. Unless you can power that thing with a good linear supply, the sound will be rather limited. Also, the interior of a PC is rather noisy to start with, and the signal being fed to the op-amp will not be particularly clean. Going to an external DAC is really the only way to do this properly for the PC. That is the major reason why I designed and built my own DAC (some pictures here ).-Chris
