Home Radio Road

Which tuner to get and getting the most from it. Thank God, for the radio!

Digital broadcasting already exists. The problem is the declining content quality !

JoeRB,

There is already of course digital broadcasting- Sirius, but there are so many millions of analogue radios in cars and homes, I imagine it will be many years before it's all digital. My thought is that analogue FM will last longer than I have reasonably useful hearing. Even then there will probably be audiophile digital to analogue tuner/converters.

Good tuners are such a pleasure- and though I've never heard one, the REL Precedent you show is one of my ideals- that how a proper tuner should look! Plus- the Rodhe above is about right too. I looked for one of those for a long time, but were always just too expensive- plus they need a stereo decoder.

In 2005 I decided to "settle" on a good tuner and ended up buying three: McIntosh MR67, MR77, and Revox B160. The MR67 was the clear winner and I had it completely refurbished, had a wood cabinet redone, and replaced all the tubes with the best NOS I could find- fantastic!

The real problem in my view with spending a lot on a tuner ios that the quality of FM broadcasting is declining in terms of content. We have really just one Classical station now in Los Angeles- KUSC 91.5 and it has gone so stupid and commercial that during the recent fund drive I thought to phone in and ask them to send ME money for having to endure the idiocy!

Sure, go ahead and get that Precedent! You and I will be museum pieces before it,..

Cheers,

Bambi B
