Which tuner to get and getting the most from it. Thank God, for the radio!

RE: Fishers are sweet....

"While they talk audiophile terms, it's always stuck me that fmtunerinfo values DXing capability over all else."

You guys may know I'm one of the founders of FMTunerInfo. It's not true we value DXing over all else. Perhaps you never wandered over to the mods section of the site?

We try to unravel the technical side of FM tuners, which for many people involved in audio, was always a big mystery. Please don't confuse technical talk about FM tuners with DX'ing. We have had our "wars", so to speak, over the years on the FMTuners Yahoo between older engineers and audiophile driven hobbyists. For some they "all sound the same", but we don't exclude folks that feel that way either. It's a big tent.

From the very begining of the site I was a proponent of tube tuners, having owned just about every tube Sherwood, Fisher, McIntosh, and Scott model of interest. Since a very good comparison of tube tuners was already done by VTV, I never personally felt compelled to repeat that work, because I generally agree with their conclusions.

To truly be a "Tuner Dude", my feeling are you need to own at least three examples of FM tuners - tube, for sonics, vintage analog solid state for the "experience" and reception, and digital display for tuning ease and convenience.
We are all still learning, doing this for fun, when we have the time. Please remember that.
