RE: Recommend a good FM Stereo Tubed Tuner

Hello,

if you are looking at the MR-71 then with at least 5 tubes in the IF/ Limter stages then you also can consider: HK Citation 3x, Fisher FM-200B, HH Scott 310-E, 312, 310 series. To get better would cost big time such as the Fisher FM-1000 or Scott 4310.

To go one level lower with 4 tubes in the IF/ Limiter stages then Fisher FM-100B, KM-60, Sherwood S3000 IV & V, Dynaco FM3.

Another route is to take a good non-tube tuner and add a tube output stage to replace the opamp or transitor output stage it would contain. Then you would benefit from the best of both(good front end, good multiplex and tube sound). Don't forget that even the best tube tuner will struggle to provide more than 30-35 dB stereo separation which will sound like mono compared to the best tuners that can do 50-60 dB.

or the opposite route, get a good mono tube tube tuner and add a top MPX adapter to it to get stereo such as www.fmmpx.com

some many options so little time and money...
