Which tuner to get and getting the most from it. Thank God, for the radio!

RE: Recommend a good FM Stereo Tubed Tuner

I own a Mac MR-71, and in fact, I got it while I was out of work, and since I had no cash, I traded a dealer my Dyna FM3 tuner, PAS3 pre, SCA35 integrated and a pair of MK III power amps, all but the SCA were fully restored and looked great. But I don't regret this trade one little bit :-)

It definitely raises FM to a new stature, and I can't begin to count the number of hours I've spent listening to the thing in the past few years. But as with any component of this age, you may want to fully restore it or buy one that already is.

As delivered by McIntosh, the tubes were all exposed, and the walnut veneer cabinet + Panloc brackets were optional. I bought the brackets on eBay and also on eBay, found a cabinetmaker who periodically offers repro cabinets. Advantage of these is you are not paying top dollar for a ratty original, and are getting solid hardwoods, not veneer on particleboard.
