I haven't heard the Amber, BUT - if you are handy with a soldering iron, the Onkyo 9090 modified with the usual Pooge-type mods, IC's, caps, etc. is stunning. I have not heard a better tuner in terms of sound quality or RF performance.I used to have a Modefferri MR-78 that also sported a few mods of my own, needless to say, I sold it some years ago.
