Which tuner to get and getting the most from it. Thank God, for the radio!

Re: Sherwood S-3000 V sounds lousy. Help/advice needed. .....

With a decided untechnical background this is one of things I was pondering when I chose to keep the Sherwoods over the Scotts that I owned. That and the fact that I could sell the Scotts for more money. The Sherwood has a 12AU7 output tube and I had more of those and more experiance with what sounded good to my ears than I did with 12AT7 tubes, although I use some nice Brimars in my Paramours. What I have settled on (do we ever really settle?) in the one Sherwood is an ordinary RFT 12AU7. The other uses the orginal 1960 Raytheon 12AU7. You can change the sound of these tuners quite a bit by using different 12AU7s. To my hears it didn't seem necessary to use something like a 7316. REcapped and a new 75 ohm attenna connector and perhaps a few resistors made a big difference. I think I should have had him change out the RCA connectors, too.
