Which tuner to get and getting the most from it. Thank God, for the radio!

Re: EICO 2200 tuner mods -- question for Jimmy

The AuriCaps were $40 & tubes about $40 from ebay. NOS tubes are somewhat a manintenance item with perhaps 10K hours or more life when new. Thus, it is not exactly a cost above any other older tuner needing tubes in the near future. The good deal is the EICO Classic 2200 costs about $80 vs Scott & Fisher tube tuners in the $150 to $250 range. The EICO blew 'the pants off' of my modified Scott 350D.

I found a Brimar 12AU7 or Amperex 6085 E80CC sounds as good as the 6SN7 with adapter & directly plugs in. I am bidding an EICO ST97 tuner to try simular mods. The multiplexer, I.F & RF/Mixer looks the same. I think the ST97 is more common, but not sure. It does differ with one compactron tube.
