There is a 1 uF 350 electrolytic on the underside of all Fisher MPX units. These are known to go bad and leak. I would absolutely replace this as a first step.
If you don't have a proper MPX generator, you can try the poor mans solution. Which is a commonly available car radio FM adapter. These are like $20 and are used to input audio signals to older car audio systems that do not have aux or USB or BT inputs. Search Amazon for "FM transmitter for car". You input a 1 kHz tone in the L channel only of the transmitter, then adjust tuner MPX to minimize R channel, and then reverse.
It still helps greatly to have experience doing this, and understanding the circuit operation in general.
