I'm not sure about the FM3 production dates. Follow the link below to some good hints regarding "the care and feeding" of FM3s.
FWIW, I was lucky enough to acquire a McIntosh MR71 in better economic times. These days, a FM3 would test my resources. Yes, the Marantz 10B ( always a rich man's toy) and the "Mac" MR67+MR71 are better than the FM3, but they don't come cheap. The FM3 is no slouch and it's affordable.
