Thanks, that is what I thought. I am using an old Eico 368 and a Hitachi 20mhz scope that I found at a thrift store. I calibrated the scope on its own test signal and it appears ok. Scrounged around and found some old crystals that I had received in a bulk parts purchase. Used this since I don't have the 4.5mhz crystals that came with the scope originally. Rigged in this 8.87 crystal and obtained the pip against the 368's variable marker (and the sweep set at roughly 8.8). Markers appeared and were close, adjusting 368's marker back against 0 beats to the crystal, I see the variable marker is high by app. 4mhz (which corresponds to the offset on the slope I was seeing. Allowing for this error while setting adjustments I can tune it reasonably well now and sounds fantastic.
