I've never heard a 767, but I own a TU850 and owned a TU800. The 800 and 850 sounded completely different, so I don't feel comfortable making a conclusive statement about how the 767 might sound. I preferred the TU850, and kept it. Now, I have a Scott 350C and, to be honest, it sounds pretty similar and pulls in stations nearly as well. But it's also more of a nuisance to maintain. I wouldn't hesitate to try the 767 first, especially if it's a good enough deal that you can resell it at no loss.
BTW, The FM3 or Sherwood S3000 are the ones most likely to show up in workable form <$200. I sold a restored FM3 to a friend for ~$100 last year.
