My tube amp input is 47K. I noticed the Sony has less output signal compared to the Eico tuner too. In my system, I doubt much change would come forth with the modifications. When I say the Sony is awful, it is compared to the Eico 2200 Classic. As for news broadcasts or talk shows, the Sony will perform without any noticable distortion.
What the Sony requires is a bandwidth option. However, be warned unlike the industry promoting HD radio is stating, it is a far removed from CD quality. Try something like an AM radio sonics thru a ham radio with a 2.5kHz I.F. bandwidth filter & DSP signal processing.
