Fine business on the KM60. Like the EICO, a simple design lets the music thru. I must buy one to modify & audition.Good point on the 19-kHz multiplexer signal. I'll drop a Hewlett Packard 1200A scope on the output & take a look.
I like ultra clear sounding home entertainment amps. Only once did a less than crystal clear amp sound good to me. This RCA 3-mica 5965 preamp tube made for a slight chorus effect on a harp in one song. It sounded kind of nice, but that was just one passage in one song.
As you say, all audiophiles have different tastes.
