Sordidman,Don't confuse Single Ended TRIODE with Single Ended Ultralinear!
Triodes can be used Single Ended or Push-Pull,
Ultralinear can be used Single Ended or Push-Pull.Triodes can however not be used in ultralinear configuration as ultralinear means there is a connection from the output transformer to the screen grid (thanks JJ Analog!) that triodes don't have, it takes a tetrode or pentode to use an ultralinear configuration.
As for the setup having to be done at the factory I'm not sure, if you are able to solder it is probably possible to DIY. At least I can easily change this on my Edison 60, I even soldered in a couple of switches so that I can easily change the configuration. I prefer it in PP triode mode, preferrably without negative feedback...
Happy hunting,
mikke
