Can a power tube, such as a Mullard EL34, have a good amount of getter flashing, but still test weak? I have a quad of Mullard EL34s (XF1), in which the flashing extends down the tube about 1/4 of an inch. When I purchased them, I had them checked out by a "reputable" tube dealer, who is being discussed in a current Thread--He told me that they were all matched, and almost new. I recently sent them to another well known dealer, because I wanted to trade them for some GEC KT66s. He just informed me that one is marginally good, and the other three are weak. I have traded/sold tubes to this dealer in Wisconsin before, and he has always given me a fair price--so I shouldn't have any reason to doubt him. However, I have been told about Mullard EL34s with almost no flashing, that were still going strong--so this surprises me.
