To my ears Amperex always had the goods in the mids, but rolled off the very top and very bottom. Siemens always did yeoman service at the frequency extremes, but sucked the mids out. The Tele was like the best of both worlds. Lacking that last iota of the extension of the Siemens, and with the mids of the Amperex. For me it's the perfect tube. I would also mention that the JJ 6922, the gold pin-version, deliver 98% of what my Teles do, but for WAY less money. If your Tele sounds lean, I'd look at whatever precedes or follows it. Lean is a description I'd put squarely on Siemens and not on Telefunken.
