Tubes Asylum Questions about tubes and gear that glows. FAQ |
|
Hey Y'all,
I usually inhabit the High Efficiency Speaker Asylum, but I have a question which seems best asked here. I have an old NYAL Moscode 600 Maxi hybrid power amp which I bought new nearly thirty years ago. Needless to say the old amp is a real keeper, especially after getting the upgraded circuit boards designed and installed by George Kaye.
It is time to re-tube the amp again. The small tubes in the signal path, 6DJ8s and 6FQ7s, are very easy to find from many sources, but a pair of 6LU8s which I understand are rectifiers and regulators have me a bit concerned. My concern is that the only 6LU8s I have found online are priced from $4.45 to $9.95 each. I wonder if I can actually get good reliable tubes this cheaply. I sure don't want to spend more than I need to, but I don't want to put my old amp at risk.
If anyone would care to comment on this or suggest an alternative tube that would serve as a drop in replacement I would very much appreciate it.
I dream of an America where a chicken can cross the road without having it's motives questioned.
