Disclaimer: I'm far from a tube expert, like you guys, but I bought one and really like it.I can see where support is critical. I've found Chris Terraneau very responsive to my questions. I had several trying to get the machine set up in computer mode as the instructions are confusing and misleading if you are using a computer with a newer operating system. I'm not exactly a computer wiz either but can see why that's a deal-breaker for some.
In stand alone mode, the AT-1000 operates virtually on auto-pilot. Computer mode takes some more practice, but the machine is very simple to use and exceptionally versatile once you play with it awhile.
I have not tried pentode testing and related curve plotting. Is it true as Jac Music says, it only tests and plots in triode mode?
I think this is a modern day standard as it tests at, or near, real-world voltages, is accurate versus an older tester that may not be calibrated, and is simple to use even for someone like me. Very glad I bought it.
