sorry xti, can´t tell about the stock tubes. i purchased the RE from 2nd hand and it came with JJ KT which i gave away immediately.
to me the SED 6550 winged C is superior to the KT88 C. the KT88 C sound too bright in MY ears, the 6550 sounds more detailed and musically with better midrange. unfortunately my critical speakers need every watt an amp can deliver so i tested shuguang treasure Z KT88 and everything was fine with those until the day i got a quad sovtek KT88 for test. could not believe this cheap and underestimated tube would perform that satifying way they did. clear but good mid- and highrange, deep bottom end. ok, the black shuguangs sound more souvereign but cooler. the sovteks are sparkling, spread more fun. so i stick with cheap sovteks!
my favourite small tubes are TFK ECC82 smooth plates (2x) plus a Siemens ECC82 nickel plates as input tube. i checked dozends of other small types but none of them performed as perfectly as that actual combination.
