over the years i have collected as many brands and types of small and power tubes you can imagine.
i compared EI smooth plates with TFKs in hours of audition and can confirm that EI 12AX7 is an astonishing good sounding tube but does NOT sound like a TFK, has it´s own character.
my statement is that no copy ever reached the quality of the copied original one. (would you truly compare a vintage Porsche 356 with a new replica?). so why use a copy when an original is available also?
BTW: don´t neglect the ribbed plated TFK ECC83! sounds richer, more "calm" and not as bright as the smooth anodes, has a different bass performance IMHO.
