Questions about tubes and gear that glows. FAQ

some stuff I found out

First, some stuff about SED KT88's; My friend, Eugene (actually Yvgeny) Karna has been selling genuine SED (Svetlana) Winged =C= from Canada since at least 1990 when I used to buy the 6550's for my ARC monoblocks. You can buy carefully matched pairs of SED KT88's from him for $85/pr. His website is www.conusaudio.com

Now, about those Shuggie Treasure Series KT88-Z's. First, it is conditionally correct, that after eliminating non-qualified tubes (rejects) the factory does in fact, select two grades of tubes, A and B, after burning-in and testing ALL the 'passed' tubes (but ONLY for plate current, nothing else!) The A grade tubes are packed in the fancy foam boxes, in pairs or quads, but you can buy them anywhere, if you ask! I just ordered a quad of the Grade A with specially selected matching high plate current readings, in the foam-lined presentation box, with 6 mo. full warranty, from China for $340 including DHL shipping; So why pay $650 + shipping + $50 optional extended warranty?

Oh right! You need me to say the web address ;--) Well, NO! I could be embarrassed; so not until I confirm I got a great deal:

Receive them in good condition,
Test them myself, including for transconductance
Burn them in for 300 hours,
Test them again,
And then A--B them with my perfect and beloved MOV Gold Lions in my MC275.

If all goes well -- and, I really like the tubes! I will report back and (maybe privately) provide the source. 'Privately' because someone is currently claiming exclusive rights to sell Shuguang Treasure Series tubes retail in North America, in an attempt to scare off other sellers, I presume. Now think people! Shuguang would be crazy to limit their retail market that way; what possible benefit could that be to them? For them to designate an exclusive wholesale (only) North American distributor would be an altogether different story. And wholesale distributors don't sell to the public, as most of you know! The same seller is now also claiming ownership of the 'Shuguang Treasure' trademark, as a 'registered' trademark in North America. However, I already checked, and the US Trademark and Patent Office application was only submitted TODAY, so not yet even reviewed, much less approved! Besides, the "application" is simply for the logo text 'Shuguang Treasure', in English letters, which if approved, has no enforceable value anywhere except the US, and then only if another retailer was also selling tubes printed with 'Shuguang Treasure' (in English letters), and why would anyone want to do that?

The international trademark and tradename protection already belongs to Shuguang; does anyone honestly think they'd give it away to some shopkeeper in North America ;--) The 'Treasure Series' name and logo is in fact Shuguang's international trademark, and is already printed on every single Treasure Series tube: in Chinese !! You know -- all those fancy gold Chinese characters on black. It's their Trademark people!!

I wonder how one says "Restraint of Trade", "False Representation", or maybe just "Delusional"(?) in Chinese?
