PHOTO: Late Siemens triple mica E83CC
Dr. Phil,
The pictured Siemens 12AX7WA's are (as tinderstocks mentioned) the late- last version of the triple mica E83CC- in my view one of the best 12AX7s ever. The "-WA" suffix is the US military designation (rugged and low noise I think) whereas the European ones were called E83CC. That they are late is apparent by the the "SIEMENS" in block letter lettering and absence of the "S&H" (Siemens and Halske) logo- probably mid-70's. The tubes in the photo are the same tube as in your photo- just with the Euro name. The blue and orangish boxes are another sign of the late style Siemens.
I could be wrong, but there may have been a late Siemens 12AX7WA that had fairly long plates and two micas.
I like the triple mica E83CC so much I eventually bought 11 of them. They are very quiet and high gain, so I like them in phono stages. If you see these NOS and priced reasonably- that is, less than $90-$100, they are wonderful tubes- energetic, punchy, bass, clean, detailed and dynamic- more authority and weight than Telefunken. 10,000 hour rating as well.
Cheers,
Bambi B
