waterfall,
Yes, Siemens made a series of double getter support ECC83 /12AX7. The double support were premium tubes and if you have stumbled upon the model that was used by Klangfilm- cinema audio systems- those are superb tubes- and have a cult following in Germany. Today, that model sells for over $100 each regularly. I have only one of these- purchased years ago and I wish I had 20 more. The sound is deep, dynamic, energetic, and seamless- like the best Amperex but with more punch. These will last for a very long time too.
Yes, if you are considering double support Siemens 12AX7's, they test well, and are not a bloody fortune- I'd say that unless you want a very warm tube- you'll be very pleased.
The ordinary Siemens ECC83 single getter support is excellent too. I'm using 4 of those in my Audio Research SP8 preamplifier (1985).The Siemens triple mica E83CC is one of my favourite 12AX7's as is the Siemens triple mica 5814A a favourite 12AU7, and triple mica E81CC a favourite 12AT7.
Cheers,
Bambi B
