There should be no need for that, and I actually think that could be a problem.

I just fired up my Ming Da to check - the tubes come on normally, and the EL84's glow orange at the base, slowly at first, and then they ramp up to their normal glow as they should. Are you getting just a little bit of "light" before the regular glow? This is normal. If you are getting some sort of bright RED glow, that is a little more troubling, but still might be OK. EL84's glow a little redder than the 12AX7's do. This is also normal.
