Aurelian_2009,
From the ARC Database: http://www.arcdb.ws/
1. REF 110 Tube complement > (4 matched pairs) 6550C (Power output) / (4) 6H30 (Gain stage and cathode followers)
110 watts per channel continuous from 20Hz to 20kHz. 1kHz total harmonic distortion typically 0.3% at 110 watts, below 0.03% at 1 watt. Approximate actual power available at "clipping" 120 watts (1kHz)
2. VS115 Tube Complement > (4 matched pairs) 6550C / (4) 6H30
120 watts per channel continuous from 20Hz to 20kHz. 1kHz total harmonic distortion typically 0.5% at 120 watts, below .05% at 1 watt
So, yes, the REF110 and VS115 use the same tubes in the same numbers and the power output is similar. I would imagine the tubes are probably selected/matched in the same way for both amplifiers- there is only one 6H30 being made today- so yes, if you had a set of tubes proper for the VS115 they should work in the REF110. The VS115 puts out 10W more so the REF 110 output tube bias will be probably a bit lower. -Don't forget the biasing- we live in a very biased world!
If you don't know the ARC Database, it's very useful for sorting out what's what between the models and versions.
Two very attractive amplifiers! I use a 1985 D115 of 100W and in my view, the ARC tube amplifiers around 90-120W are among the best sounding- the M100's from the mid-late 80's for example is still among my favourite 4 or 5 ARC amplifiers.
Have you already bought a REF110? What preamp and speakers are you using?
.
Cheers,
Bambi B
