You know how it is, you can pay a lot to get an extra 5% in sound quality. The EL tubes will allow the notes of music to have an increased inner bloom, clarity, and sense of naturalness; and overall your recordings will sound a little more cohesive or integrated. You will hear a difference, but a subtle one. As nice as the Melody is it is not the last word in refinement so I understand your question,...if you are going to use the amp for a year or longer, I'd say keep an eye out for some 300-500 hour used ones, you'll appreciate the difference. And if not, you can resell them without a big loss.
