Lee,
I see you're in Malaysia, but regarding the manual, my suggestion is to contact Audio Research:
Audio Research Corporation / 3900 Annapolis Lane North / Plymouth, Minnesota USA 55447-5447
Phone: 763-577-9700 / Fax: 763-577-0323 / www.audioresearch.com / consumer e-mail not currently available
-and with the serial number of your VTM120 in hand so as to have correct version- order a manual, which I believe are still about $10.
As for drivers in the VTM, the VTM120 uses 3- E88CC in each monoblock and I would expect a noticeable change with good NOS as compares to with say, Sovteks or EH6922's, but I'm not sure of the degree of change. The E88CC has many good flavours. And you've made a good choice in that respect. If the VTM120 was a later design it may have had 6N1P or later 6H30 as drivers and I don't think there are many alternatives with those tube types.
As it happens, I'm just preparing to experiment with driver tubes in the D115 (1985), which uses 3- E88CC and 4- 6CG7. My plan is to try 3- NOS Valvo E88CC from 1963 and 4- RCA black plate, square sidegetter, centre shield 6CG7s from the late '50's.
What tubes- drivers and output are in your VTM's now? And, what are your preamp, speakers and main sources?
Cheers,
Bambi B
