RE: Economical KT88 6SN7 and 6SL7 Recommendations?

Chinese 6SN7's and 6SL7's definitely do not have a good reputation, so these should show a big improvement with an upgrade. For a good-value 6SN7 (which can get quite expensive), look for a tall-bottle, triangle-plate Tung-Sol (make SURE you re getting vintage USA, not Russian re-issues). I also think the triangle-plate Sylvanias (which are late 60's production) are pretty good considering they can be bought quite cheap.

6SL7's are generally not expensive. Get some brown-base 6SL7WGT's - Sylvanias or Tung-Sols.

w/r/t KT88's, others will have to chime in. I do know that almost all are expensive. I use straight-bottle RCA 6550's, which i was able to get for about $100/pair.
