RE: 6SL7/ 6SU7

They are electrically equivalent. My B&K 650 also shows a *very* slightly different sensitivity setting for the two, but it's so small it's not meaningful. My B&K 606 tester has identical test settings for the 6SL7 and 6SU7.

The only difference is supposed to be that the sections are more tightly matched, and that the 6SU7 has lower noise and microphony (read: better selected).

Of course, only Tung-Sol actually made 6SU7's. The "military equivalent" 6188 was made by Sylvania and Phillips (and do feature different construction from the Tung-Sols, but are exactly the same as some Phillips/Sylvania 6SL7's). The Tung-Sol 6SU7GTY are the excellent black-glass round-plate tubes and sound terrific. Tung Sol 6188/6SU7WGT's are clear glass with flat plates - I have some black and some gray. While nice tubes, they sound nowhere near as good as the 6SU7GTY, IMO.
