with any reference material, or is it just hearsay? A careful look at a few of those "test reports" will surprise you -- they're the same (at least the ones I've seen when I ask ebay sellers to send me a scan). They all state the same min/avg/max numbers for many values (e.g. transconductance) hardly an individual tube report!
You seem a bit rigid in your likes/dislikes if I do say so . . . . . . .
It's the other KT88's, new and old, that sound dry and clinical to me (and I'm not the first person to say so ;-). I even auditioned a quad of the (in)famous EATS, which were excellent indeed, but not $1500 excellent! (I don't know about the NOS TS 6550 blackplates, but I intend to try some if/when I can put together a decent quad.)
Must be my crappy system, huh? ;-)
