at this point, there's really nothing to disagree about, is there? I think you make some excellent points; and I feel it best to keep an open mind and maintain a positive, if cautious, optimism about the success of this new 'application' of a well known design (as Cory pointed out.)

After reading some material, starting with the link he provided, it appears there could be some real sonic benefits to planar tube design. And it was apparently only due to poor timing and the introduction of transistor technology, that it was never applied to audio tubes. So, we'll wait and we'll hear, and we'll decide ;-)

But wouldn't it be great to see a leap forward for an older technology? No one could make a decent electrostic speaker until mylar and other thin films were invented, yet the idea was as old as the dynamic driver. They used cow intestines at Bell Labs to make the first diaphragms, but rejected the concept after a couple of days when the speaker began to smell! Hopefully TechTubes will fare better ;-)
