Hickock 800A English setting-red dot or actual English number?

Greetings-I recently acquired a Hickock 800A and I'm a bit confused with the wording in the instruction manual as my previous experience has been with a Hickock 533 A. On page 3, section b, it states : "The dot near 73 on the dial is the setting point for the 3000 umhos scale." If I'm testing a 6SN7 for example , which calls for an English setting of 79, do I set the ENGLISH dial to 79 , or to "the dot near 73 on the dial". I hope that this isn't too stupid of a question, but I read and reread that manual a few times and I'm still confused on this issue. The reading for both halves of a 6SN7 is much higher at the "73 red dot" setting than for the "rollchart" setting of 79. Which setting is correct??? Thank You, regards, Paul -----Ps. -This issue applies to testing many different types of tubes (in the 6000 and 15000 scale also ), with the exception of rectifiers and maybe some others.
