... be used to good effect. In a headphone amp I have, the 5751 is a much better choice as it lowers the noise even further and allows more range of the volume control to be usable. However, that same amp can be used to power speakers, and there, the 12AX7 would likely be a better choice for the extra gain.
The application can make the bigger difference that just a generic answer. In general, I prefer 5751's if the application allows the use of them.
