This is an almost impossible question to answer...

because it depends entirely on what tube, and maybe even more, how the tube is being used in the circuit that its in. In some circuits, where the tube is loafing, 10,000 hours or more is easily possible. In some amps it's possible the tube could last far, far less time.

Generally tubes will start to make noise, sound bad, or glow blue before totally going, but sometimes they will flash and blow on power-up, or even during use. This is very, very rare in my experience, though - I have a lot of tube amps, and while I have had tubes get noisy, I have never had one actually blow. However, the fact that they can is one reason it's not a good idea to leave a tube amp on when you are not at home (although again the odds are there would be no issue).

So bottom line - your 400 hour old tubes SHOULD still last a long time.
