I have seen that some people are selling 6F8Gs on EBay including adapters so they can be used in place of 6SN7s. I was tempted to try it, but wasn't sure whether the adapter made it a drop-in replacement or not...
6F8Gs do appear to be a cheaper than the super-crazy-premium priced 6SN7 variants like the 6SN7W metal base, CV1988, ECC32, and 5692, but they are NOT cheaper than some decent sounding NOS 6SN7GTBs. So they really would have to sound better to be worth fussing with.
Anyway, I too would be interested to know if the 6F8G can safely be used in place of the 6SN7 with an adapter to change the pin config...
