The 7N7 is definitely the loctal-base equivalent of the 6SN7. I have some loctal > octal adapters, and have used the 7N7 in place of the 6SN7 using the adapter. I have RCA and GE 7N7s, which I assume were both made by GE. The nice thing about 7N7's is that they are cheaper than 6SN7s have become, but there is not much variety, and there are 6SN7 variants that sound better to me than the 7N7 does.
