Did you read the 'Joe's Tube Lore' report on the "Audio Answers" page of AA? I found that generally, only triple mica blackplate 5751's were clearly better than the best 12AX7's (Joe doesn't like ANY 12AX7's ;-) And of the TMBP varieties, my favorites were: RCA/Sylvania first (just can't decide!) and the GE second. Haven't heard the Raytheons.
Note: The Sylvania GB TMPB have steel pins and are identical to the JHS (military) version. The Sylvania GB with the gold pins only came with grey plates and is the "holy grail" 5751, but to me, not quite the sparkle of the blackplates, not for my taste.
I've also rolled quite a few 12AT7/6201 tubes (in my Mac 275) and once again found myself gravitating to the blackplate tubes. Sylvania GB BP 12AT7 and, just a little better, 6201 GB BP are the best so far, with RCA and GE blackplates very close behind.
