Greetings- If your Cary 2A3s are anything like my Cary 300Bs (fixed/adjustable bias)then there should be no issue at all as you will still be able to adjust the bias to be equal on both amps. Is the 5u4G the "stock" rectifier tube that originally came in the Carys? Reason that I ask is that my older 300b amps use a GZ-37 tube, which is an indirectly heated (slow warm up) rectifier compared to the 5U4G which is directly heated (fast warmup).Cary uses a switch so that you can light the filaments first, and then flip a second switch to apply the high voltage. This prevents the driver and output tubes from seeing any high voltage before they are warmed up. This prevents what is known as "cathode stripping", which can speed up the demise of the tubes. In other words, you should have no problems using your rectifier tubes. Enjoy, regards, wpod ps- I was going to tell you to email me if you had any questions, but I see that you are not registered. Why don't you?
